As our birthdays are only three days apart, Sam and I always organise a big joint birthday party. It’s usually a big night out in York in fancy dress with copious amounts of alcohol and bad dancing. It has always been a great night out. This year I wanted to do something a little more low-key as I couldn’t face going out all night with a massive group of tipsy people and I think my not drinking would alert them to our big news pretty easily too!

We decided to combine the two things, our birthday celebration and spilling the beans about our “big news”, with a group curry with all of our friends. I had been looking up different ways to make the announcement, most of the things I found were different funny online photos or videos but I wanted to save the now traditional Facebook post for the scan photo.
It was really nice to be able to tell all of our close friends in person and see their faces. I think some of them had guessed as there had been a few occasions where it was perhaps a little obvious – trips to the local pub where I was strictly on soft drinks and Sunday lunches at our house where I had Schloer and not wine – but it was still nice to tell them all properly. We wanted to do it after the scan so that we knew everything was OK and so we could share the photo with everyone.
All in all it was a massive weight of my shoulders as I’m rubbish at keeping secrets about myself! I’ll remain tight lips about anyone else’s news but really struggle when it’s something about me and Sam is well aware of this so I think he was pretty impressed that I had more or less managed to keep it to myself until now!
